Seoul - Day 2: Petite France

January 21, 2014

Once we were done with Naminara Island, we got back to the mainland and queued for a cab while contemplating whether to or not to go further in for a visit to Petite France. It was autumn, and sun actually set pretty early, as early as 5pm and Petite France is at some mountainous area, which is only accessible by private transportation - cab, or tour buses... It's hard to wait for the public buses there. Not joking, we were almost stranded there when night falls.

Anyhow, since we were already at somewhere QUITE near Petite France (from the ferry terminal to Naminara Island), might as well just spend the rest of the remaining daylight at Petite France, right? We got onto our cab (which we were afraid some other commuters queuing might just jump queue and board the cab...), about 15-20mins ride to Petite France. I couldn't recall how much was our cab far but to be frank, it WAS NOT that cheap.

As usual, we did the normal tickets purchasing routine... Took a stroll in Petite France, acting all artsy, trying to understand and admire those pottery crafts, puppets, art pieces and whatnot... Some of the crafts, porcelain dining wares are quite exquisite actually, like all the plates from many many years ago back in the France or something... Also, all these tourists attractions, there are bound to have those ink stamps situated at different areas, so you can actually collect the stamps (chops) as you tour around the place. Guess what? I took out my notebook but it was Shini who helped me to fill them up with the ink stamps...

Yeah, I know right... Why can't I do it myself...

THE WEATHER WAS FREAKING COLD.

The Petite France is at the mountain man, can you imagine as the cold wind blows, how chilly can it get??? To be frank, it's just an exhibition with all the artifacts, they are nice but I just couldn't get my engine started. All I could think of at that point of time was... To stay indoor. Each time I had to walk out from one point to another, I was so reluctant to do so, my cold wear was just a knitted sweater from H&M kids department (LOL brace thru the wind, what doesn't kill me makes me stronger...) and I didn't put on my thermal wear for that day.

Like I said, the whole place is an exhibition so we actually ended up strolling in and out different rooms, finding the ink stamps, took pictures to prove that we had been to Petite France before... So right now, sit back and enjoy the pictures. Maybe after viewing this post, you can save your time to go there already hahaha.

Puppets show going on at the Amphitheater when we arrived.

If I am not wrong, I think these were for sales.

 Yeah, wedding shoot.
HOW THE HELL SHE CAN DON THE WEDDING DRESS AND TAKE WEDDING SHOTS IN SUCH CHILLY WEATHER, I WAS ALREADY FREEZING....

I quite liked this piece of rooster glass pottery actually.

Travel bud with her favourite Charlin Chaplin.

It should be oil painting... Or some digital photography.

 Hard at work...
Collecting the stamps.

I was outside waiting for Shini from her toilet break...
Saw the crescent as the sun started to set.

After collecting all the stamps and done the whole tour in Petite France, we decided to hit back onto the road and navigate our way back to the nearest subway station... God, it was hard to hail for a cab there and we had no idea how to call a cab as well. LOL so we went to the nearest bus-stop outside, figuring what buses should we take and YES, the bus frequency is crap. We were uncertain how long we had to wait and it was really windy... and cold.

In the end, we followed the crowd and headed to the opposite bus stop, boarding the bus which arrived first and there was a bit of commotion, cos a few of us (and some other tourists) had no idea if that was a public bus or the bus that's catered for sightseeing... In the end, it wasn't a public bus and after a few hiccups, we managed to board the bus by purchasing bus tickets from the driver, 5000KRW/pax, from Petite France to some subway station which I don't recall the name, neither do I take a picture of it. DEAD BEAT and too cold to even bother whipping out my camera and snapping pictures.

Our epic day 2 in Seoul ended just like that, covering both Naminara Island and Petite France. My photos log doesn't show me what happened for the rest of the night, like what else did we do, shopping or gobbling down whatever food at Seoul. Nothing. No pictures at all, either my camera batteries were all exhausted or I was just too lethargic after a long day out in the COLD. Sadly, that's how I am gonna end my post on the day 2 of my Seoul-searching trip.

Next post will be on my Day 3 in Seoul.
We went to Everland Theme Park (SHOUT YAY WITH MEEEEEE) and met up with Teck Poh aka Tadpole, a friend of ours back in SP, whom we met (I was in the same group as him!) during our LTC trip to Ipoh. He was there for his NUS students exchange programme in Seoul University (If I'm not wrong) and it always feels good to meet someone you know while touring in other countries...

I guess this is by far the only post that has the right proportion of words and pictures.

Happy Tuesday, one more day to mid week!!

Xx
