Air Fryer - Dehydrated Pork Livers (Doggy Treats)
April 12, 2021Dehydrated Pork Livers
Spending too much on buying dog treats for your furkids? Why not try this homemade dehydrated treats for them! It's so easy, all you need is just some time because... It is actually a waiting game.
Equipment: Ninja Air Fryer Max - AF160 (Or any dehydrator/oven with a low temp. setting), gloves
Ingredient: 3 Slabs of Pork Liver (I bought mine from Sheng Siong at S$1.00/piece)
Duration: 6 - 6.5 Hours
Method:
1) Pat dry the pork liver (although it should not be wet at all, probably just very slippery)
2) Cut them into strips (wear gloves if you are not a fan of blood) - around 1/8 inch thick
3) Space them out on the tray (please leave a gap between each slice to avoid them sticking)
4) Set the air fryer/oven/dehydrator at 70°c and let it dehydrates for 6 hours
5) Once they are fully dehydrated, pop it in a pre-heated oven for 10 mins at 135°c - To ensure that all the bacteria are killed and the treats are safe for your furkids to consume
Slicing the pork livers into small pieces
Arranging them onto the tray
Tips:
- The thinner the slices, the lesser the time needed for them to dehydrate
- Check the liver slices every couple of hours and flip them at the halfway mark
- Once they are dried up, remove them and transfer them into the oven to bake for 10 mins
- Store in the fridge to prolong the freshness of the treats (it could be kept up to several weeks)
- Do remember to remove as much fats on the meat/livers before you dehydrate as fats do not dehydrate well
I personally prefer using pork livers than chicken breasts for treats as the yield amount is much higher but one thing for sure, dehydrated chicken breast strips are DELICIOUS. I'd tasted them when I made the first batch previously, it was similar to eating potato chips but in a form of real chicken bits! - If you would love to try dehydrating chicken breasts, the method is the same as above, just check the meat every few hours to ensure they are evenly dehydrated. Try it!
Enjoy making treats for your furkids and yourself for a fraction of the cost!
TTFN!
