Often times, I remind myself to just live the moments as yesterday is over and tomorrow is not guaranteed but honestly speaking, what if the moment one is living in right now, is of an unpleasant state? 

 

What would you do? How do we overcome it?

 

Attempting to relive the past is never going to help, it hinders you from progresing further since you will always be reopening the past chapters in the book, not letting go what's supposed to be gone.

 

Maybe, all in one, we should try to make every day less miserable and see things in a positive way... Gradually, we will get to enjoy the moment, aye?

This is just a random post because I had a terrible night.

 

How do you describe a night that you know you are asleep but at the same thing, PHYSICALLY, you know you are awake. I've no idea what is it called, like I'm awake-sleeping?

 

It was that bad.

 

I knew I was sleeping but physically, I felt that I was awake.

It was way worse off than my usual nights of endless dreaming.

 

Despite having dreams every single night, at least, I wouldn't feel that I am physically awake, but not for the case last night. It's a huge WTF to being with but seriously, I really do own a scumbag brain which doesn't want to rest even given a chance to.

Next Stop: Drury Lane

Brunch out, dessert in.

It was drizzling the moment we left D.O.C but it kinda stopped after 5mins of walking to find Drury Lane and we finally found it after walking past it without knowing. We must be blind, blind must be we.

The place is much cosier but the only aim I had back then was to use the lavatory. THE BLADDER WAS BURSTING, just kidding but I needed the toilet and yes, they have a toilet (thank goodness). Then, after surveying the menu, the desserts (already made-ready for consumption) were not shown but were displayed at the counter panel instead. Only those that have to be cooked/ prepared upon ordering are on the menu.

So anyhow, they cater muffins and the muffins... It's not being priced. THEY ARE BEING BOUGHT AT HOW MUCH YOU WOULD WANT TO PAY. OMGAH, I wonder if anyone would just pay 10cents for the muffins. We didn't get the muffins, altho the Nutella flavoured muffin looked quite savouring (and we, or I was too full back then).

In the end, the both of us... Shared a piece of banana bread (I LOVE BANANA BREAD, it smells so gooooooooood) and it comes with butter... in Espresso flavour. Yes, you read it right. The butter is infused with Espresso powder/syrup or whatever it is used to make it. I've only tasted salted & unsalted butter in my 23 years of living and this Espresso butter is... explicit (Okie, might be a little exaggerating).

Oh oh, the desserts, and the all-day breakfasts are actually quite affordable at Drury Lane and we were sitting right opposite the open-concept kitchen so... I get to see all the dishes prepped by the staff that and the breakfast looked hellamazing. No idea what actually was the breakfast but my guess is... Some big breakfast or whatnot.

Next half of the day goes like this:

Urging Shini to book the movie tickets beforehand was totally a splendid idea but before we made our way down town, we had a little tour around Singapore. Cafe-hopping was over in the early afternoon and it followed by bus-hopping to get to our destination (Somerset). From Tanjong Pagar to Pan Pacific (opposite Marina Square) then transferring bus again to Somerset. SO FUN, SHINI, SO FUN.

Yup, online-booking for movie tickets made our lives much more convenient and easier 'cos the crowd at the counter was ridiculous like seriously... Must be the movie - Hunger Games, The Mockingjay (Part I) and we watched this as well. HAHAHA.

The movie was... kinda boring as compared to the previous two, probably 'cos there wasn't much action scene and the song, "The Hanging Tree" is catchy but the more you listen to it, the more eerie it gets... Hanging the murderer who killed 3. Uhm... (...) FYI, I almost fallen asleep when we were only 5-10mins into the movie. It was THAT BORING but subsequently, I stayed awake throughout tho and guess whut, the movie was 126mins long - Too draggy.

As the night falls:

Mission succeeded (to curb Shini's craving for DTF - no idea if she craved for the xlb or zjm) after waiting for 45mins for our table. Almost died waiting but food was served pretty fast and we had got the corner seats (heh).

A whole table full of food, from century eggs, to chili crab buns, xlb, her zhajiangmian, my pork cutlet, duck rolls... Actually is the table for 2 quite small, hence, the table full of food but yup, right amuont of food for dinner! (At least, I didn't feel like I'm choking onto the food at the tip of my esophagus)

& because the night was still young after our dinner, Shini dragged me to Scape for some actions to burn off the calories. She brought me to Playnation for some console games and we played Wii! The last time I went to Playnation was god knows when, like my friend brought me there to play L4D using Xbox which totally made me a total noob (IT WAS SO DIFFERENT FROM COMPUTER).

Then, with the new package (I think, 'cos it's been ages since I stepped into Playnation - okie, I don't even go there at all...), an hour of rampage, I meant, an hour of madness playing the games cost only S$9.50/pax with free flow of drinks and popcorns omgah. I'm not a fan of popcorns but the popcorns they served us that night was fresh and warm, slightly sweented, like a healthier choice as compared to those sold in cinemas.

Shin chose a game called "Rabbid" or something and it's actually some dumb games that required only brawns. HAHAHA, as long as physical quick actions are involved, I will own the round LOLOL which somehow, made my biceps bigger after a few rounds of shaking the damned controller.

Dumb, but some stages are quite fun and hilarious.

Then, our night ended with much laughter after an hour of gaming (omgah, we are both not even an average gamer and I'd only play L4D if anyone asks me about my gaming experience LOL YOU HAVE STARTLED THE WITCH!!)

The next day:

We are definitely a fan of Shiok Maki from Koh Grill & Sushi Bar but when we got there... It was too early so they hadn't start their operation sighpie, choosing our next destination... We headed over to Wild Honey for brunch instead. Totally, no place like home. The ambience is good - for both outlets and the food is omgamazing.

Truth to be told, once I get hold onto something nice, I wouldn't risk to try another type and hence, LOL I've only ordered English Breakfast from Wild Honey and never tried other breakfasts before at all LOLOL TELL ME ABOUT LOYALTY.

The English Breakfast from Wild Honey is the bomb, how could one not order it whenever visiting Wild Honey. It's a goddamned crime, man. LOOK AT THE FOODDDDDDD and I can never finish the whole set... Oh, and my bitch would always order her Tunisian Breakfast, no idea how it actually tastes like but my English Breakfast is still gonna rock your world.

 Sister's Island (Pulau Subar Laut)

Hey guys!

How was your weekend? :)

I was kinda recently on a hiatus quite frequently but sorry to inform that I am still pretty much alive and kicking. Just kinda needed some time off doing real things/adventures, getting out to spend time with the sun.

That being said, I was kinda cut off from any source of virtual communication (except the walkie-talkie and VHF we had to use for the trip) during the weekend because of the expedition organized by my juniors.

1) Not wanting to use the phone while on board (Piloting the boat + the sea water... It's better to be safe than sorry)

2) Can't really see stuffs on my phone under the sun (The reflection of my screen + the super scratchy screen protector)

3) The hut we took as our accommodation for the night was further away from the jetty (The reception was pretty bad for Starhub users - We were constantly getting Indonesia Telco Services instead)

4) A getaway, means a get-away from the hustle bustle city. For a quiet and relaxing (but sleep deprived) weekend.

5) I'd probably got no friends (The horror BUT my few close friends were with me on the island itself)

The en route to Sisters' Island was alright, no major hiccups...

Weather had treated us fairly well, like no big storms or scorching hot sun. It was kinda gloomy at some points of time or rather, the sun was kinda playing hide-and-seek with us.

Then again, in any ways, as long as you're out in the sun, the best solution is to apply sunblock so you won't regret and which, I finally, certainly, DID 'cos I didn't wanna get nagged for days again.

Paddlers had all managed to complete their paddling from West Coast to Sisters' Island in the choppy sea condition. The formation was quite compact as the number of participants was not as large as the other SIKEs.

Distance to Sisters' was much longer, it's literally a long stretch from Pasir Panjang Fairway to the end of Sentosa Island, heading towards Sisters' but still, a job well done for them to be able to complete the trip.

The route planned was straightforward and despite the long stretch of paddling, and just paddling, the paddlers and those in the powered pleasure craft aka the rubber dingy, get to see Sentosa Island in another view (IN THE SEA)!

Tanjong Beach, Siloso Beach, Palawan Beach... and the kinda mouldy Merlion. Oh, not to forget, we also get to see the MBS, Singapore Flyer, Marina Barrage from Sisters' Island. Not a bad deal after a few hours of arduous paddling under the sun, right?

The only worrisome thing was the freaking monkeys which stay in Big Sisters' Island (There's a small Sisters' Island opposite but it was already being occupied by another group of organization/campers who took bum boat there).

The log team was being attacked by the monkeys and they were saying the monkeys were ferocious, stealing our food (log boat got there first to unload their stuffs), showing fangs and backside at them, chasing after the log team.

Let's beach up!

 After about 4 - 5 hours of the paddling, the group of adventurers finally got to the island to beach up their kayaks and had a face-off with the monkeys (Just kidding, most of them were afraid of the monkeys instead). At least, it means there would be more people to take care of the stuffs.

The expedition this time round was slightly different from the usual sea expedition 'cos... The number of alumnus who participated was of a minimal, less than 10 and the usual ones didn't come at all.

The alumnus used to cook A LOT and there would always be leftover, the input would be more than the output despite it's a paddling event but not this time round.

None of us bought any food, we were literally just a service provider (for being the boat handler) and so, we were kind of waiting for food most of the time HAHA but we didn't have the time to really get stuffs since everyone had to work prior to the trip.

So basically, the alumnus (not me hahaha) just napped after their shower, napping while waiting for dinner and I must say, Sisters' Island is a pretty awesome place for photography (excluding the monkeys). There are few stretches of breakwater which we can easily walk to and sit down to enjoy the sea view while catching the sunrise/sunset.

Simple dinner was served by the juniors (Macaroni + Fusili Pasta with pan-fried chicken fillets) as the dusk was setting in. The night was peacefully spent... Until I was woken up by the sound of the waves (I am a super duper light sleeper) and the presence of Edwin who happened to be standing beside me (Kinda scary but I think he came to the table to take the torchlight or whatever for his toilet trip).

The good thing is, the mosquito repellent from BKK, in milky lotion form is the best thing invented on Earth. It smells damn good, it's not sticky and does its job well to fend off the mosquitoes. OH, it's only 50baht, scream with me people, scream with me. It's probably the only sea expedition that I had minimal itchy bites, thank goodness for this wonderful invention.

Rise & Shine.

We were shining before the sun even shines at us.

The group of us was supposed to walk to the breakwater, sit back and relax while enjoying the sunrise but this brudder of mine (in the photo below), said he had been witnessing lightning during the last hour and recommended that we should all stay in the hut, rocking our hammocks while trying to catch the sunrise... That's what we did in the end, and I am seriously not a fan of lightning too.

Then, after breakfast prepared by the juniors (pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausages), we kinda started taking photo on this super-bent coconut tree. A TOTALLY GOOD SPOT for photography... Explains the first picture above before this lengthy post.

After a few solo shots of mine, my brudder came up to me, wanting to snap pictures together with me... As I was seated down previously, he was asking me to stand up for the photo and this was this outcome:

Maybe it doesn't look high enough here but it's quite a distance (vertically), and the trunk isn't that thick but the tree managed to hold us all when we were taking the group photo (6 of us, me being the furthest away from the ground, having feet cramps while trying to balance...).

Anyhow, we set off slightly earlier for the journey back to West Coast and the traffic along Pasir Panjang Fairway was kinda heavy, with all the big-ass tanker ships docking in and out. Paddlers were all so shagged out under the hot sun and still had to speed up their paddling to get out of the channel but YAY, they did it.

5 hours of the physical-draining paddling, they finally got back to the west side of Singapore, AKA West Coast Park/ Poly Marina (Under SP)/ RSYC. Oh, which I've just realized, after beaching up all the kayaks and boats, debrief with the alumnus and then the washing up...

We didn't take a group photo after the trip with the current comms and participants OMG why like that but it's okie, memories stay...

The regret of CHOOSING to sleep late at night for no particular reason.

Lethargy.

Plain simply mentally, and maybe, physically drained.

Sleeping late is by choice.

I can only blame myself for being so deprived of sleep recently but do you think, 24 hours in a day is enough for you? Yeah, many would say if your time management is well-drafted, there would definitely be time to complete whatever you have for the agenda of the day but honestly speaking, you really can't get best of the both worlds, right?

If everything is lined-up flawlessly, with no hiccups then what's the point of living a life with no setbacks? It could be a positive stance that one is missing out, not all the setbacks are bad. Some setbacks serve as a reminder, as a motivator to us. Then again, sacrificing my sleep so I could do more things in the day... That's the opportunity cost & I hope, it will be paid off.

Actually, I have no idea why am I here blabbering about nonsensical stuffs when I can dive into my bed and swim my way to the dreamland (a place which I hate).

It's like, millions of thoughts running in my mind but I can't really construct them into proper fragments of words right now. They are like patches of clouds in the sky; a little here and there... I guess, I shall consolidate all my thoughts before coming back here again.

Just... Feeling kinda jaded.

Done with the River Safari and the animals, fishes, monkeys, snakes, otters, crocodiles, panda buns, food, human, oxygen, grass, weather, sky, birds, whatever...

 

We proceeded to our next destination for dinner which was to curb my cravings and because of it, I actually made a reservation at least 4 days in advance.

 

TIMBRE. DUCK PIZZA. PIZZA AGAIN. FOOD. US. THE BAND. THE LIGHTNINGS. THE RAIN.

 

Oh, and just nice, there was the 32nd Singapore Regatta going on and obviously, I had friends taking part but nope, I didn't walk to the opposite and support them LOL. They would still do well anyway 'cos they are legends in the World of DB.

 

We sat at the side and watched a couple of the races before we headed over to Timbre for our dinner. This is the first time, we actually stayed so long there, even after the band resumed after that 1st break, we were still there and that's because of the heavy downpour.

 

The rain was so sudden and heavy, together with the ultimate lightning (which scared the crap out of me), we were all stranded in Timbre, which we (Edwin) ended up ordering more food. The band finally kinda covered all my fav. songs.

(Sunday Brunch)

I'd previously created a group chat for food-hunting purposes and, hahaha I am always the one sending screenshots to the group chat (which only consists of Shini and I btw) 'cos I have Instagram and always looking out for food in the Explore tab.

 

So anyway, I saw this person posting photo of the brunches they had in Tian Kee & Co. so I took a screenshot and sent it to the group chat... I swear, the big breakfast looked awwmazing man, like NO JOKING.

 

So, the next day, Shini had actually decided to head there for brunch. All the way, from Woodlands to Mountbatten OMG almost died travelling but thank goodness, it was only a 3mins walk to the provision shop-turned-cafe.

 

Stoked as we were, we ordered the Eggs Royale, and the Big Breakfast.

Sadly, it's just normal sunny-side up eggs (& I thought it would be eggs ben :( ) topped with some cheese sauce (not hollandise sauce) and salmon. The greens was pathetic.

Toasts, scramble eggs, sausages, bacons, baked beans (and btw, the baked beans is those from the can) Okie, maybe a little to high of a expectation from me 'cos Wild Honey's English breakfast lifted up the benchmark of all brunches cafe for me.

 

BUT, giving them a benefit of doubt, I think, the cafe is famous for their cheesecakes? The rainbow cheesecake which I heard it's invented by the owner and made from Yogurt so it's healthier. My friend actually wanted to order a slice to try, but we figured, we should save the space for the churros at Orchard Central (my cravings once again).

 

Not sure if I would return there for a try... Maybe if I am happened to be there... I would stop by to try their cheesecakes, maybe. Just maybe.

 

OKEH, then, Shini accompanied me to town to do some errands, then for dinner, and... Yup, that concludes my weekend.

 

Not exceptionally happening but... At least, I can tell people I went to River Safari before?

Broga Hill

Hey guys, I know I've been going off from the Internet for awhile... Not posting any pictures on Instagram, logging in Facebook, though I checked my twitter feed time to time but besides that, I am as good as having a disappearing act.

I used to blog PRETTY often, this blog has been around for 10 years or so but sometimes, when you are so drowned in living your life, you'd spend so much time out in the world and neglecting this platform of letting out your thoughts.

So basically, whenever I hop over to blogger, it only has two meanings.

1) Bored & lifeless.

2) Overwhelming thoughts surfacing.

Sigh, no matter how packed my weekends are, there's still something missing and I cannot figure out what exactly it is. Or maybe, there is this something but me being me, trying to escape from reality or continue to live in denial...

Roadtrip to Broga for a hike!

Anyhow, last weekend, a group of us rewarded ourselves for a short getaway further up Malaysia, somewhere in Selangor, for a SUPER EASY trek but with a much better view on top as compared to Fraser Hill which we hiked in July.

The clique supposed to consist of the 6 of us but because the civil servant had duty on the weekend, she had to give up this trek for the Government but it was a good thing as well 'cos it means, we didn't have to spend extra lump sum of money to rent a MPV for this trip. I let out my car for this trip, so everyone saved a little more. HEH.

No idea if anyone of you would like to know how did our schedule go but since I am going to talk about this trip, I shall pen down whatever I know/remember.

The trip embarks like this...

On a Saturday morning, my group of friends took awhile to enter Truly Asia due to the overwhelming crowd at both customs. It kinda delayed our initial planned time to depart from Johor Bahru to Selangor.

1130hrs, they were finally at the pick-up point and I, being chauffeur for the first part of the day, picked them up from Malaysia custom and brought them to the ultimate famous BKT for brunch. Thank goodness, the crowd had already disseminate by the time we arrived; getting a table for 5 and a parking lot were a breeze.

Brunch checked, time to clock the mileage up Selangor at around 1230hrs - 1300hrs, which I volunteered to drive the first part since... It's gonna be just Highway and me, us. It's pretty easy to navigate to Broga and yes, GPS served us well. After a pit-stop halfway for toilet break and refueling ourselves with more water, Ang took over the rest of the journey.

(FYI, how amazing, he didn't even need to adjust the driver's seat at all, not even the rear mirror. I only found out when I took over the 2nd day to send them to custom after dinner. Holy mama.)

After a few hours of driving (MUCH BETTER THAN THE OVERNIGHT DRIVE UP FRASER, OMGAH), we finally arrived at the foot of the hill (it's not high enough to be a mountain) and we were supposed to park in a slanted way but seeing no cars around, Ang just parked it parrallel to the palm trees in the plantation... Like a boss.

The Ascend.

Refilling water into our water bags, changing to our hiking outfit, spreading the insect repellent on our bodies, as well as the sunblock, we were finally all good to go, but toilets were locked ('Cos prolly, it only operates in the morning where there will be crowd and supposedly, there is an entrance fee but... I think, after a certain timing, it will be waived.) Oh, speaking of which, I didn't have the chance to clear my bladder...

The trek finally commenced at around 1700hrs, and it was an easy hike, although the gradient might be steep but still, fairly easy. It took us about 25mins of relaxed steps up to the summit. The hike was easy but combating the mosquitoes was tough. Mosquitoes were literally following us and we had to spam 2nd layer of army insect repellent halfway thru the hike.

Never underestimate any tiny stuff, they do make a significant MAJOR impact. Try sleeping with a damned mosquito at night.

That's me (in singlet) the 2nd youngest but 3 years gap with Eeching, the one beside me (Still in SP), Ang (in black), Michelle (in yellow), and Cynthia (in red).

Y'know, it's really amazing how different batches can bond together. For the record, we didn't even get to attend school together, cos some might have already long graduated when one enrolled into the school but because of similar passion, it brings each individual together.

It just feels so magical, like how two strangers can click instantaneously once they meet.

The Descend.

Up the hill was easy, so as the descend but I almost slipped once, breaking into cold sweats but managed to balance myself. Just after we completed our ascend, we realized that, there were actually quite a number of people trekking up as well and there was this one guy, who hiked up with an umbrella but descended with trash he found along the route. It isn't even his job but he is doing his best to help keeping the environment clean, OUT OF GOODWILL.

Which in turn, I asked Ang to get some rubbish down as well, and he took with him a detached sole he found on the ground, then asking me, why is it the true blue Malaysian not doing it instead. HAHAHAHA wtfug.

Finally, descend was completed and we got changed into... Slippers before we continued our journey back to KL for the night and the butter crab Michelle had been craving.

Remember, I was mentioning that I didn't clear my bladder before the hike since the toilets were all locked? I actually abused my bladder until 2000hrs where I finally get to relieve myself wtfug I swear to god, I almost died in the car.

1) A tad congestion while going back to the core of KL

2) There was so many cars, we had to wait for a lot in the carpark

3) Security guards failed in providing clear direction to the washroom

Night Fall.

Upon completion of the trek, and back to KL for the night, we were finally all washed up before we continued our scouting for the butter crab that Michelle had been craving for, and introducing us to it. By the time we got to the place, it was already 2100hrs but not too bad, the butter crab was good, but the more you eat, you will feel the thick gravy getting stuck on your throat...

The meal was alright, we had fried squid with salted egg, stir-fried kailan, two butter crabs, satays, some marmite ribs or something, stir-fried clams, few coconuts water and a couple of fruit juice. It amounted to... RM200+ for the 5 of us, not sure if it was a rip-off but they certainly enjoyed their meal.

As long as everyone's happy, I am happy.

Sunday.

Waking up at 920am for breakfast before we conclude our trip in KL. As Ang was trying to look out for the dimsum place, we all gave up and just headed into a coffeeshop which has stalls that sell dimsum and noodles.

THE BREAKFAST WAS EXPENSIVE with mediocre standard of food being served.

The wanton mee cost us a whooping RM6.50/small bowl, and the dimsum was at RM4 - 6/ basket. Worst of all, the custard bun totally burnt my finger as I tried to peel them apart. The gravy just squirted out onto my fingers, even though I was already being so meticulous in my actions.

Breakfast was pretty meh but that somehow concluded our journey in KL before we disembarked back to JB, stopping by Johor Premium Outlet 'cos Ang wanted to get a pair of leather shoes for work.

Nothing much to talk about 'cos J.O.P is boring.

Then, as for dinner, I brought them to The Zon for fresh oysters! Not exactly cheap but still, the oysters were fresh and the meal for the night only amounted to RM190.

Half dozen of osyters, fried tiny squids, vegetable, fried flat beehoon, kungpow chicken, coconut water and a couple of luohanguo tea.

If y'all convert it into SGD, I am sure you guys would say it's cheap... So any takers for fresh oysters and a staycation at my house for a relaxing weekend? Hahaha.
