Virgin Baking Session!

They say, chocolate makes you happy...
Why not bake something which you can eat & be happy at the same time?
:)

Homemade Brownies
I know y'all are salivating... :b

This morning, I woke up to... No breakfast at home.
Okay, normally, my mom would buy my breakfast back home after they have it outside in the morning, as early as 7am which I CAN'T wake up so early at all. I'm now enjoying my off days, and successfully transformed into a nocturnal animal again. This basically explains why I can't really drag myself out of the bed so early in the morn, and the morning weather these days is seriously too awesome for a longer snuggle in bed. It would definitely be a sin to separate me from my bed but still, I try to wake up before the clock hits 12nn (Probably, at 9am - 10am)!

The grouchiness this morning was a bitch 'cos I literally told my mom I didn't want to eat breakfast anymore, throwing a little tantrum right there because I'm really sick of eating bread & they had toasted bread for breakfast, explains why there wasn't any packed breakfast. Then, she said she would bring me out for brunch before going to the hypermarket to get the ingredients for steamboat at night.

We did our shopping in less than an hour, how fast was that! Of course, we didn't time ourselves, just that the parking ticket has to be inserted into the machine to pay for the fee and the grace period for the ticket is an hour hahaha and we didn't have to pay when we exited the mall.

Anyhow, because my mom had to get the ingredients for the steamboat, she was asking me if I wanna get the ingredients for some baking session and this is how I ended up having my virgin attempt on baking! First and foremost... The pictures above look great, right? HAHA, truth to be told... I used instant mix brownies powder instead of starting from scratch. I need to grab the tactics of baking first, so using instant mix for the 1st attempt isn't asking too much, right? Once I've level up, I will bake it from scratch, alright!!! Please be lenient to me hahaha.

The process of baking was really a little way too funny, and never had I been so blur at all... There was this direction to follow on the box and I was supposed to add only 75ml of water... Guess what? I went to fill the measuring cup with 750ml of water, that's like 10x of the required amount. Thank goodness, the bowl I used to mix the ingredient was not big enough for me to pour all the water inside so in the end, I only used 300ml of water HAHAHA which was still TOO MUCH.

The mixture was supposed to be gooey instead of watery and this was when it hit me, got me wondering why my mixture was so WATERY omg. To my horror, when I reread the direction, HAHAHAHA I seriously felt like giving a huge facepalm on my forehead. I was a little worried over the mixture, but all I could think of was to add in more cocoa powder (which I bought to make some other pastries).

I almost wanted to dump away the whole mixture but thinking, it would be a waste if I do that so I told myself to give it a shot!! I was preparing for the worst, yet hoping for the best... I told my mom about the mixture, she said it still could be saved but once I told her the amount of water that I had pour in excess, SHE LITERALLY CHANGED HER STATEMENT and said it is ruined... Still, I filled the pan and stuff it into the oven and I baked it a little longer.

I googled about what can I do to salvage the situation. The advice people gave was either add in more flour & cocoa powder, continue to stir it until it's the state that you want, or you could bake it longer in the over, and some also said that... It doesn't matter much since instant mix is produced so noob baker like us would not ruin it even if we add in too much water. THIS IS SO TRUE as I watch my mixture being baked, the brownie was forming! I got so excited, and I literally described it whenever I witness some changes to Shini over whatsapp. HAHA & the way I described my brownie made her laugh in the officer cos I was telling her it looked like my brownie is a volcano which is gonna erupt soon and took a video for her hahahaha.

During the process of baking, the fragrance of the chocolatey brownie started to diffuse and fill up the whole dry & wet kitchen. My mom was busy packing her kitchen wares in the wet kitchen and kept on telling me that it smelled really nice but I was telling her, hopefully it would turn out well to really match up with the fragrance.

BEEP! 30 minutes is up!!
I really couldn't wait to cut them up and see if the middle is baked thoroughly or that it is still too moist to be eaten... I was supposed to let it cool before cutting it but less than 5 minutes of letting it to cool, I brought out the place and knife to start my operation. Oh, I did use a chopstick as the stinger to check the readiness of the brownie and it came out clean, which means it was baked well! My mom did the cutting and she was my guinea pig... Hahahaha, she tried it and said it actually tasted good. It was really a surprise for me because I really really thought the excess water would ruin it all but hey, SURPRISE SURPRISE, it turned out well!

Fresh out from the oven!
Looking good, right? :b

The thickness is a little... Too thin.
(HAHA, because of the excess water, I couldn't fill the whole pan with the mixture)

Mom's being the guinea pig!
A thumb up from her, approving the success of my virgin baking!

Another shot of her taste testing my brownie!
& seriously, I'm satisfied with the end product. :D

I've saved some for my neighbour's kid but we didn't see them today so... Mom said we will pass it to them tomorrow. I hope it would still taste as good!! It's so fun baking, like next time when you are confident with your baking skills, you can actually invent your own recipe man! How cool!!

Alright, this marks the end of my virgin baking session & I helped my mom to prepare the steamboat for dinner after that! I must say it was a productive day for me because I didn't really have the time to use the laptop or watch the TV. Loving life like this, time enjoyed wasting is not wasted at all... :D

P/S: This is sort of a random update because I was waiting for my hair to dry before I can hit the sack HAHAHA.

Have an awesome week ahead!
xx
