A branded camp for bonding.
Alright, that's crap.
It's Adventures Expedition, one of the training camps for upgraders (Year 1s) and it's more of an endurance and mind-fugging camp. A camp that really drill you physically and mentally with number of PTs to clear and remembering quotes while you're barely attentive. Oh! It's also a camp to learn essential survival skills like eating earthworms and killing frogs for food. It sounds gross but it can't even get to compare a fraction of what Bear Grylls does.
Day 1, when the hell starts.
Upgraders arrived at Pulau Ubin and started to build their Basha (A shelter built by tarpaulin) before clearing their PTs. Well, some of them were experiencing pains here and there, even blacking out but they still survived through everything which is a good job done!
Day 2, the hell continues.
Upgraders were woken up at 5.59am, according to my watch and started clearing their punishments again (I guess) and did some weather learning together with basic first aids skills before heading off for their adventure race around Pulau Ubin. Yes, I took CS's DSLR with me and went round taking photos of them and myself + Shini. HAHA, part of the album is filled with my stupid faces but I didn't top any of the SPA-related albums anymore once Fel had graduated. HAHAHAHA.
I was dragged to the hell too.
Back to campsite, having fun cooking pancakes and loitered around before my body gave up on me. Gastritis kicked in and I snuggled in my hammock, trying to sleep the pain away but it failed. I nearly made good friends with the toilet there because of the number of times I feel like puking and yes, I did for twice or thrice. I endured the pain for 4 hours before deciding to go back to the mainland.
Uncle being emotional...
Shini & I made our way to the jetty, trying to contact the boat uncles to get us back from Pulau Ubin back to Changi Ferry Terminal. When we were there, we overheard this uncle sitting there swearing all Hokkien profanity over the phone and for a moment, I thought this uncle was unfriendly, pretty crude and aggressive but actually, he's a nice uncle. He gave us the contacts for the boats and also, telling us stories about his life. He took care of the cats and dogs at Ubin even though he doesn't earn much - he pays the money for sterilizing the animals there and actually, he was weeping away before he talked to us.
Before we left, he said he might not remember us but we could still remember him and asked us to wish him all the best or something. Anyway, while we were waiting for the boat, he rode his bicycle (what a down luck, his back tyre was punctured) back home with his dogs and a moment later, he walked back to the jetty - kinda sent us off from Ubin. Well, he told us that he's leaving Ubin already and I hope he can live a happier and healthier life ahead. HAHA, I just remembered, he actually asked us if we smoke, if not, he would offer us his cigarette.
Uncles in Singapore are still very helpful.
Yes, we hopped onto a cab and Shini told the cabbie that we needed to rush back home 'cos I was sick. The cabbie was like drifting away and explaining to us the road he took to get us there. Alright, I didn't know he was cutting lanes to get us back home faster because I was already kinda half dead in the cab and he only took 26mins to get us from Changi Village back to Marsiling with a total distance covered of 29.9km. Cab fare was $20.60 and he actually asked us to pay 20 bucks for it only but we didn't accept his kind offer since it's hard to earn $$ by being as a cabbie.
Day 3 - Hell kinda ended for me.
Not for the upgraders. I heard they were still clearing their punishments in school and helped to pack the container as well. I was already back home, with a omg, screwed up body but I'm feeling much better now already. I'm glad they are all fine now despite the body aches and minor cuts here and there. Good job, probably they are more and more physically and mentally fit after enduring through this camp! :D
Wooo, a busy holidays for me!
It's kinda packed with activities, jobs and projects. 3 weeks of holidays seems so short and 1 week of holidays is coming to an end already. Anyway, it's sad that I can't attend my brother's university graduation ceremony over at Perth cos it's happening a week before my final and last examinations in SP. Sigh! I guess my whole family will be there travelling and enjoying life away while I'm stuck in SG for some serious works to be done. :(
Time to bathe,
& catch horror videos/movie on Channel U later!
Side note:
Thanks to friends who showed me your TLC when I was sick like some patients in the hospital (exaggerating since I could still crap and online)! Pretty much appreciated, I'm not that heartless!
Great jobs to all Year 1s, once again! ^^v
