Trekking in the jungle.
June 23, 2010Hi. While waiting for the guys to finish their 2nd serving at this vegetarian bak kut teh shop, I've decided to start penning down my thoughts for my trek in the jungle, a night in Gunung Datuk. :)
Ascending up the mountain.
The whole trekking duration only took us 2hrs 27mins which was considered quite fast. Probably there were only 4 girls in total for the whole expedition but everyone had indeed done a great job in meeting the expected time to reach the peak.
It was a smooth journey, no one slips/falls when hiking up and everyone lent helping hands to each other - great job. ;)
1625hrs and we reached the top. Upgraders and junior committees headed to the summit for the magnificiant view from the mountain whereas the senior committees - us, sat down and started to prepare basha and dinner for the night. Hokay, I actually slept when the guys were building the basha but I did a lot in preparing for the dinner by cutting the ingredients into cubes shape! I didn't slack that much afterall!
Nightfall..
Dinner was done and over with. I headed to the lower campsite and watched how the upgraders start their campfire with deodorant. Apparently, fire didn't last until Muxing came over and helped them with the strengthening of the flame.
Next, when we went up to the summit - viewing point, the weather was goddamn cooling and there was fireworks. Well, the fireworks weren't that attention grabbing though. We were at a higher level than the fireworks which resulted in catching a rather smaller than usual ones.
Back to our campsite.
Time seemed to be passing as if 1min = 1hr and it was taking a toll on me 'cos I really wanted daylight to come so I can get back to town and head back to sg as soon as possible.
Freezing, freezing cold.
I had a hard time sleeping, with such a cooling weather and I tried to squeeze myself into my jacket but still, omg.. Cold. Great job, I totally forgotten about bringing track pants. Hahahaha. It rained at around 3am and everyone of us geared up with poncho. As the raindrops hit harder on us, the girls went inside the tent and chilled/slept while the guys sat down under the basha and started crapping and singing away..
Good Morning, World.
Finally, bright sky was seen but still, we were still in our wet attire for simple breakfast and clearing up of campsite. We started descending at around 8.50am under the rain and my shoes are mad dirty right now. I stepped onto the layers of leaves which happened to be puddles of water. Yes, whole of my left foot soaked into the muddy water.. GOOD JOB.
The more I walk, the more hotter I get..
That until a point of time, I took off my jacket and poncho. If not, I would have probably fainted and died in the mid of the mountain. HAHA. Just kidding and I carried on descending with my shirt and FBT. Anyway, when the rest was having their water break, the 4 of us - Muxing, Weiloon, CS and I decided to go down first so we took another 30mins and finally, reached the foot of the mountain and it was infected by flies. NNP, I think there was a million of them.
Packed, changed.
I got myself changed in the toilet with a new sets of clothing before taking the cab back to town. A few of us headed to the vegetarian bak kut teh shop while the rest had their lunch at KFC. HAHA. I used the toilet at KFC to wash my face with facial foam 'cos the tap water in the toilet at the foot of the mountain comes from the waterfall which is very dirty. It's not those.. Waterfall that you can use it for drinking purposes. HAHA.
Hokay, time to hit back the train station.
The moment I reached there, I unloaded my bag and sat on the floor, with my face on the seat and yes, I fell asleep shortly after. I woke up a couple of times 'cos my legs were numb and finally, Weiloon woke me up, telling me that we had no train to go home so my face went "WTF?" Sigh, so they said we could take coach back so it wasn't that bad but I really had enough of travelling in train and bus now. Totally kills with the long hours of ride.
I slept and slept..
I had been sleeping on the train station and in the bus. There was nothing else I can do except sleeping, especially during the ride. I've no idea whether my head is hurting now because of sleeping too much or is it we were drenched when descending down the mountain. Either way, it just doesn't feel good but I will sure be fine 'cos school is starting. Omggggg.
Home sweet home.
My dad picked me up at the bus terminal and I got back home at 9.10pm. First thing I did was to bathe, finally a shower to make me feel cleannnnnnn and unpacked my clothes for washing. Hokay, I need to wash my shoes as soon as I get back to Singapore tomorrow and I feel rather shagged now with heavy head. I wonder if I should catch my dinner later or should I just sleep?
P/S: Haha. I didn't quite expect that.
annjay from iPod touch & laptop for 2nd half of the post!
